On Sunday, July 29, 2025, the ballroom came alive at the Slovene Party Center in Barberton, Ohio, as USA Dance hosted its much-anticipated Summer Serenade. The evening was a true celebration of dance, music, and community, drawing a sold-out crowd and representatives from four USA Dance Chapters across the region.
The highlight of the evening was an exhibition performance by Professionals Calin and Victoria Panainte from neighboring Chagrin Falls. With over ten years of partnership and multiple competitive victories, they have captivated audiences and judges alike with their elegant technique and artistry.
Their presentation was breathtaking—graceful, powerful, and precise—leaving the crowd cheering and inspired. Their artistry added a special spark to the event, reminding everyone why ballroom dancing continues to enchant audiences of all ages. Calin and Victoria originally hail from Moldova, an independent country located between Romania and Ukraine.

The evening was further enhanced by a delightful buffet prepared by Chef Zouheir “Chef Zou” Kahwaji. For the first time in my life, I tasted his Mediterranean Stuffed Chicken, and it was terrific! His culinary talent is only rivaled by the heartwarming story behind it. Chef Zou emigrated from Lebanon in 1987 and credits his passion for cooking to his mother, who taught him the art while they lived on a family farm. Now a father of six and a grandfather of four, Chef Zou infuses warmth and heritage into every dish he creates. He currently runs a successful catering business and serves as the Executive Chef for Kent State University, where he is joined by two talented chefs, Jole and Nichole, who work under his guidance. The delicious meal prepared by Chef Zou and his team received high praise and contributed greatly to making the event truly special.

DJ Amy Lee kept the dancers moving throughout the evening with a perfectly curated playlist tailored to the crowd. Her music selections energized the dance floor, keeping it lively and active until nearly 8:00 p.m. with the final song. She provided smooth transitions from one ballroom style to the next, maintaining high energy levels throughout the evening.

The only drawback of the evening was the lack of air conditioning, which made for a warm and humid atmosphere inside the facility. Despite the heat, dancers stayed on their feet and in good spirits, proving once again that ballroom enthusiasts are as dedicated as they are graceful.
The event marked a strong spirit of collaboration and unity, with dancers from four different USA Dance Chapters joining in the celebration. New friendships were formed, and familiar faces shared the floor, reflecting the welcoming and joyful energy that defines USA Dance.
From the vibrant dancing to the exquisite food, expert music, and professional entertainment, Summer Serenade was a memorable success—and a wonderful reminder of the power of ballroom dance to bring people together, no matter the temperature.
