The History of the USA Dance Florida Dance Spree: A Legacy of Leadership and Celebration
What began in 1995 as a meeting of minds has evolved into one of Florida’s most cherished ballroom dance events. Originally held in Sebring, Florida, the Florida Dance Spree was established to unite the USA Dance chapter presidents of District 9—not just to dance, but to tackle challenges, share solutions, and strengthen the ballroom community. The annual gathering provided a space for collaboration, ensuring that leaders had an opportunity to discuss concerns, support one another, and strategize ways to grow the dance scene.

While its foundation was rooted in leadership, the event naturally became a celebration. As the years passed, the Dance Spree expanded beyond discussions, incorporating workshops, competitions, dinner dances, exhibitions, and exciting contests, such as Jack and Jill and Team Matches.
Today, it continues to honor its original mission—building connections, enhancing skills, and fostering a thriving ballroom culture—while introducing vibrant new experiences that keep dancers returning year after year.
Growth & Expansion: The Move to Daytona Beach
What started as an intimate gathering of chapter presidents quickly gained momentum. As word spread and more USA Dance members expressed interest in joining the annual event, it became clear that a larger space was needed. With attendance steadily increasing, the Florida Dance Spree made the exciting move to Daytona Beach, allowing the tradition to flourish on an even bigger stage.
The new venue provided room for expanded programming—more workshops, more competitions, and even more dazzling exhibitions. The transition marked a turning point in the event’s legacy, ensuring that dancers from across District 9 and beyond could come together, celebrate their shared passion, and experience the magic of ballroom in a truly grand setting.
