I was running out of ideas for the USA Dance Chapter’s Summer Serenade Dance. In Amy Lee’s (Chapter #2024) newsletter, she mentioned a well-known chef, and I planned to highlight his story. After finishing the interview, I felt like dancing and wanted to take pictures of the members in dance positions. However, since I was feeling a little under the weather from the heat, I stepped outside for some fresh air. That’s when Frank Evans from Chapter #2015 and Mary Liceaga from Chapter #2024 rescued the day with some terrific photos that were sent to my email.

Later, as I was going through the photos, one particular picture that puzzled me was Frank’s photo of himself and his partner, Kim Wegner. I wondered who took that photo. I later discovered that another member from Chapter #2015, Cheryl Hickey, was also at the dance and had captured a great shot of someone who usually takes the photos.
This picture may have started as a simple snapshot—taken casually, almost as an afterthought. There was no grand plan or expectations. Yet, one thing led to another: the photo was shared, admired, and passed along until it eventually reached a publishing expert curating content for American Dancer. What began as a quiet moment behind the lens turned into a published feature, reaching an audience far beyond its original scope. This reminds us that good things often happen not through careful planning, but through impulsiveness; sometimes, the most meaningful outcomes come from happy accidents.

Frank and Kim are members of Chapter #2015, which serves the Youngstown-Warren, Ohio area. Frank holds the position of vice president, while Kim serves as the chapter’s secretary. They have been dance partners for eight years, initially teaming up during a ballroom dance week for a Swing and Foxtrot performance. They practice at Boardman Park a couple of times a week and typically attend all events hosted by USA Dance. Both have been members of USA Dance for approximately ten years.
They plan to compete in the Social Fun Dances at the USA Dance Nationals in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, March 27-29, 2026. Come join them!
