What is National Ballroom Dance Week?

National Ballroom Dance Week is a dedicated time for dance chapters, studios, and enthusiasts to host events that showcase the beauty and diversity of ballroom dance. Activities often include:

  • Free Dance Lessons: Offering newcomers a chance to experience ballroom dancing firsthand.

  • Social Dances: Providing opportunities for dancers to practice and enjoy their skills in a welcoming environment.

  • Performances and Showcases: Highlighting the talents within the dance community and inspiring others to join.

How Can You Get Involved?

As a dance enthusiast, there are several ways to participate in NBDW:

  1. Attend Local Events: Check with your local USA Dance chapter or dance studios to find out about events happening in your area.

  2. Organize an Event: If you’re part of a dance organization, consider hosting an event to celebrate NBDW. This could be a workshop, social dance, or performance.

  3. Spread the Word: Use social media and community boards to promote NBDW events and encourage others to participate.

September is also USA Dance Membership Month

Did you know that September is Membership Month for USA Dance?  What does that mean and how can you help?  Yes, I said it…How can you help?

Ballroom dancing post-COVID-19 has not caught up with Ballroom dancing pre-COVID-19.  Social dance and competitor numbers are still down across the country.  Chapters have folded and competitions are struggling.  It’s sad and we need to try to remedy this.

John F. Kennedy once said, “Ask not what your country can do for you. Ask what you can do for your country.”  It is time for our members to work together to improve something we love.  This call goes out to all our members – Young and Old, Social and Competitive, Professional and Amateur, you get the idea.

What can you do?

  • Spread the word about dance opportunities. Talk about USA Dance
  • Support local USA Dance events.
  • Invite outside dancers to be members of USA Dance.
  • Invite outside dancers to your USA Dance events.
  • Invite non-dancing friends to learn to dance, and dance with them.
  • Reach out to past members (social and competitive) and invite them back.
  • Support existing USA Dance competitions. It is hard for the organization to create more competitions when the existing ones are struggling.
  • Participate in dance presentations and showcases.
  • Hold a USA Dance event at your local studio.
  • Try competing if you’re a social dancer. You might love it.
  • Try attending social dances if you’re a competitor. You might love it.
  • Attend a competition that you are not competing in.
  • Get qualified for Nationals.
  • Volunteer with your local chapter.
  • Volunteer at a local competition.
  • Invite local Professionals to do a showcase or teach a class at your studio.
  • Attend a dance camp and invite others – National or otherwise.

  • Write a dance story for American Dancer.
  • Share USA Dance Facebook posts and stories.
