Did you know the United States will have over 500 athletes competing in the Summer Olympics? Did you know you have a special reason to watch?

The Summer Olympics will be held July 26 – August 11 in Paris, France, and will include 32 sports and 329 medal events.   Many of us will be glued to our television sets from the opening ceremony — a 6 km parade of more than 160 boats carrying athletes down the River Seine – to the closing ceremonies at Stade de France, in Saint-Denis, France.

Everyone has their favorite Olympic Sports, whether it is swimming, gymnastics, track & field, soccer, basketball…the list goes on.  However, USA Dance members have a special reason to turn on their televisions on August 9 and August 10.  That is when our USA Dance Breaking Athletes will take to the floor for a chance to win the Gold.

Recently, Kelly Clarkson sat down with USA Break Dancers Sunny Choi and Victor Montalvo on the Kelly Clarkson Show.  Sunny talked of her early Gymnastic years and Victor talked about his Breaking upbringing.  These two completely different stories have carried these two Olympiads far, and soon they will be competing for Olympic Gold.

B-girl Logan “Logistix” Edra and B-boy Jeffrey “Jeffro” Louis will unite with B-girl Sunny “Sunny” Choi and B-boy Victor “Victor” Montalvo to form an impressive team representing the United States.  They will also join over 500 other United States athletes in the quest for a place on the podium and a gold medal, showcasing the spirit of the red, white, and blue.

The Women Breaking Qualifications are scheduled to air at 4 p.m. (Paris Time) on August 9, followed by the Final at 8:00 p.m.   The Men’s Breaking Qualification are scheduled to air at 4 p.m. (Paris Time) on August 10, followed by the Final at 8:00 p.m.  [Note:   Paris is six hours ahead of Eastern Standard Time.]

B-girl Logan “Logistix” Edra and B-boy Jeffrey “Jeffro” Louis will round out the United States Breaking Team.

If you want to better understand the sport before you watch the Olympics, Breaking rules, moves, format, and judging criteria are explained on the Official Olympic Website.

According to NBC, “NBC is the proud home for all U.S. coverage of the 2024 Paris Olympics. Each day during the Olympics, live competition will be presented across NBC, while each night an enhanced primetime show will spotlight the top moments from competition. USA Network, GOLF Channel, CNBC, and E! will also air Olympic coverage.” Peacock is also set to stream every sport live throughout the Games.

So, now you know the who, what, when, where, why, and how.  Mark your calendars and get ready to cheer on our athletes.
