In response to requests by coaches and athletes — and in recognition that, like our country, USA Dance and Ballroom DanceSport continue to still rebuild from the negative effects of the COVID pandemic — the Board has voted unanimously to alter the qualifications for 2023 USA Dance Nationals. This will maximize participation while maintaining our United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee requirement to operate a national sports program. Athletes may attend and compete for the National Championship titles if they meet the following criteria:
- Compete in any USA Dance competition between April 2022 and March 2023, regardless of placement, including:
- Hot Ballroom DanceSport Challenge NQE
- Florida Sunshine Dance
- Kansas City Dance Classic NQE
- American DanceSport Festival
- Chicago DanceSport Challenge NQE
- Gumbo DanceSport Championships NQE
- The MAC Regional Championship
- Atlanta DanceSport Cup
- Southeastern DanceSport Regional Championship
- Pre-teen, Junior, and Youth competitors from the Alaska, California, Hawaii, Nevada, Oregon, and Washington do not need to qualify
- Senior V competitors do not need to qualify
- Teacher/Student, Mixed Proficiency, Solo Proficiency, Pro-Am, and Professional Athletes do not need to qualify.
- Collegiate competitors do not need to qualify for Collegiate events or for the same style and proficiency level Adult events that they dance at the Collegiate level.
- A Collegiate Athlete dancing with an Adult Athlete must qualify for the Adult events they wish to dance.
That means there are just two more opportunities for Amateur athletes to qualify to compete for National Championship titles at the 2023 USA Dance National Ballroom DanceSport Championships in St. Louis, Missouri. At stake are medals, National Titles, $83,000 in world team travel stipends to World Championship events, Scholarships, and bragging rights.
