When we think of the end of January, many of us picture a rather dull period. The Holidays are over, and it is cold, especially if you live up North. So, what are your choices? Buy a new sled? Throw wood on the fire? How about heading South to Georgia and spending two days turning up the heat on the dance floor?
The USA Dance Atlanta DanceSport Cup is scheduled for January 26-27 at the Atlanta Marriott Northeast/Emory Area, and Organizers Vladimir Karpov and Katrina Volgina are looking forward to hosting a great event.
“This year is our 4th event!” said Katrina Volgina. “We are very proud of it! We started it from scratch and it has grown into a two-day event at the hotel!”
And she is means it. The Karpov-Volgina team is planning a superb event. The competition will kick off on Friday Night and will include a Gala featuring six-time World Champions — Dmitry Zharkov and Olga Kulikova. If you have not seen this couple perform, you have not seen ballroom at its best (Check out the link at their name)! If that’s not enough to get you into a seat. The evening will also feature gorgeous performances by the World-famous Show Dance couple — Jake Mazhar and Yulia Bessarab.
“The doors will open at 8:00 p.m. on Friday,” said Katrina. “Attendees may join us for a lovely dinner or just opt for a seat at the show.”
But what about the competition itself? “Dancers are in for a treat…We have teams coming from Mongolia and Canada,” said Katrina with a smile. “So, it makes us International!” And all competitors – pre-teen to Senior V, beginners to Professionals — are in for a tremendous experience!
The 2024 Atlanta DanceSport Cup boasts an impressive judging panel – Ilya Barmotin, Inna Brayer, Jelena Danilcenko, Larissa Kerbel, Oleg Kulyba, Patti Panebianco, Liene Reinbold, Alexey Seredin, Lesya Sinitsa, Kimberly Smith, Oleksandra Tsyrlina, Karita Yli-Piipari, and Chaired by the ever-watchful Sami Yli-Piipari.
Rounding out the team will be Daniel Boman as Scrutineer, and…wait for it…Madeleine Mravkarov as the Music Director! “Plus, we have one of the best MCs – Egor Shalvarov!” exclaimed Katrina. “So, we know it will be fun!”
The venue itself is a great choice. The Atlanta Marriott Northeast/Emory Area was recently redesigned. It is just off I-85, and only a short distance from downtown Atlanta and Atlanta Airport. If you want to explore the area, there is a complimentary hotel shuttle service to places like Brookhaven, Atlantic Station, Georgia Tech, Buckhead, the CDC, and more.
The competition will be held in the hotel’s Centennial Ballroom, which allows room for a full selection of vendors, including dresses, hair, and makeup.
It seems like the Karpov-Volgina team has thought of everything!
Well, they have. In addition to the competition, on January 28, they are offering a one-day camp. This is not a sanctioned USA Dance Camp, but they promise it will be “Intense” with “Super Star” Coaches. Learn more at the link below.
